Today, NIO announces that NIO will recall some NIO ES8 electric vehicles equipped with battery packs produced from April 2, 2018 to October 19, 2018. This recall affects 4,803 vehicles. Recently, the General Administration of Market Supervision and Management conducted investigations on vehicles that were on fire. Affected by the investigation, NIO decided to recall the relevant vehicles to eliminate potential safety hazards. NIO produced and delivered more than 11,000 ES8s in 2018.
NIO ES8 is a mid-large electric SUV and it has two different versions of cruising range. The investigation has concluded that the battery packs in the vehicles involved were equipped with a module specification NEV-P50, and the voltage sampling cable harness in the module may be pressed by the upper cover of the module due to improper positioning. In extreme cases, the insulation on the pressed voltage sampling cable harness may wear out and cause a short circuit, creating a safety issue.
For more information about the recall, IIA dialed the helpline number of NIO Customer Service Center to consult as a customer. The staff replied that they have received the recall announcement from the automaker and the recall will start from now; and at the same time, customers could call the NIO Customer Service Center and submit the vehicle identification number to confirm whether the vehicle is affected in the recall.
IIA also consulted an authorized dealer to ask about the implementation of the recall. Some staff said that NIO will replace the battery pack for the affected vehicles to eliminate the hidden danger.
